This video is inspiring. I love the music, the bikes, the sense of boundlessness and the story. Friends getting together and hitting the road for no other reason than being together and being on the road. Its brings life back to its most simplest form. Like cowboys of the modern day, united but free.
I just watched a film called Men’s Group. Its very real. Being a guy its hard not to feel a connection to it. I thought this pic summed it up quite well.

I haven’t posted anything on here for a few months. I had a bit of a holiday over summer and have recently moved to Wellington. I have started working on a film here full time that I can’t really talk about so found myself in a bit of a predicament re posting on this blog. Yet, I spoke to a friend recently that I hadn’t spoken to for a while and she had noticed my blogging absence. It felt good to hear to be hnest and I now realise I have missed it too. So, here it is, first post back from a wee hiatus. A beautiful clip I just came across that I feel sum’s me up right at this moment after having a long, lots of thinking day.
This is really inspiring. Bluebrain have released what they are calling a “Location Aware Album” on a completely new (well at least to me) format. From my understanding, its like a real world game soundtrack app for Central Park in New York. If you have a smart phone and have this app, you can walk around Central Park listening to the album. Yet, using GPS the music will change depending on where you are in the park. Like the soundtrack in a game, the music gets stripped back to one or two instruments then another will come in as you progress through a different area or completely change if so be it. Its an amazing idea. Great music too!
I will forever love Wu Tang and any project they or one of their members does. This time it seems Method Man has gone full blown actor. The lead role of The Mortican. Looks rad!
—JIMMY'S NARRATION SAMPLE
Sneaky sample of narration for Dead or Alive. To be part of Art In The Dark 2011.
New Book

Another book arrived yesterday. Awesome. Although I should probably slow down on buying these. I now have a couple text books that I’m part way through. Is it better to wait till your’ve finished one book to start another? I don’t know, it seems I get a bit bored and want a change.
FOLEY: FOOTSTEPS. Garden soil in drawer.

Turns out my friend Trevor had a (chest) drawer full of soil just sitting at his house so I didn’t have to go to the creek to dig up dirt after all. Simple. Lessons learned 1: share with your friends what your doing because they may have the exact thing you need. lesson 2: wash down the tarpaulin after its been sitting outside because you may get a snail mushed into the carpet of your bedroom!
David Lynch Announces His Debut Album

I dont know this man personally but reading him from his art, i love him. he makes AMAZING films and he also makes music. A fantastic combination i think. He just announced his debut album release for next month. You can hear the single on pitchfork. I get visions of scenes from his films when I hear his music. Rad.
The owner of the junk store asked if I needed a bullet proof jacket. I think he thought I was planning a murder. In some ways hes right. but only a fake murder scene for the animation im working on. I didn’t bother questioning him or stating what i was doing. I just rolled with the fact he thought I was a killer. gave myself a bit of amusement!
This is really great!!
French Concession_Launch_debut EP

French Concession have released their debut EP entitled Launch. I Remixed and Mastered the album and the art work was done by Kim Laughton (www.olivepixel.com).Its ended up pretty nice. Kind of pop-indie-electronica with a female vocal and some subby bass. You can go to www.frenchc.com then follow the Download tab. That will take you through to the bandcamp page. They have gone with the ‘name your price’ thing too so if really hard on cash you can still get it! Great way to get your group out there really. Check it out!
I bought a Drum Practice Pad from the Rockshop today too. Their pretty funny. Their pretty much a really thick, round, black piece of rubber that you can wack. It’s called a Rebound Pad actually. It definitely ain’t straight rubber because it gives off a plasticy sound and feel when hit with drum sticks. Now I am on my way to being a master drum roller! Especially after watching Jared Falk’s 7minute-finger-training-technique-to-make-me-a-pro-supervideo. check him out, he has the classic drummers mouth face when he plays.
I have just ordered a Rycote mini Windjammer for my PCM-D50 through Sound Techniques. Now I wont have to use my ghetto cut up t-shirt and taped version anymore. Rad! The Rycote mini’s claim to give up to 30dB in wind-noise attenuation, I wonder what my version would have dropped it by?! Maybe 5
—ATMOS DEEP HIGH LAVA CAVE MID MORNING RANGITOTO ISLAND
I got to Rangitoto on the weekend. It was a great day for it. The sun was out all day and I was in need of some time out of the city. Its definitely worth a trip for anyone keen to go someone unique. And you get to ride there on the ferry which is always fun. This is the sound of one of the lava caves on the Island. Its very dark and has two small entrances that you have to either get on your hand and knees or squeeze climb through. Once your inside though it opens up and has a ceiling of about 3 meters. The roots from the trees above hang down into the cave and then twist back up into the soil and there are lots of drips of water! Very Cool!It kind of sounds like a sea shell pressed to your ear plus drips.
